Ecuador. 2022(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Benítez Iglesias, Carlos Javier; Sarmiento Ríos, Juan Francisco; Charry Ramirez, José Ricardo; 0302657762; 0106585433Introduction: Malnutrition refers to an imbalance in the optimal state of nutrition, and indicates us the development of a society, the main factors of malnutrition are food insecurity and lack of economic resources. In Ecuador, 23% of the child population suffers from malnutrition, with 27.2% in the province of Cañar. Objective: To determine malnutrition and its associated factors in children between 6 and 11 years old belonging to the Froilán Segundo Méndez Educational Unit, San Antonio parish in the province of Cañar in the year 2022. Methodology: Observational, analytical and cross-sectional study. Data were collected from 112 children from 6 to 11 years old, through the application of surveys, scales, assessment of anthropometric measurements and evaluation of factors such as age, sex, socioeconomic status and frequency of food consumption. Results: A prevalence of 59% of malnutrition was found, among the predisposing factors were a high socioeconomic risk with 79.5%, rural residence with 58.3% with a frequency of food consumption of 5 times a day, but with a deficit of nutritional intake. Conclusion: There is an increase in malnutrition in the province of Cañar, which is double the reported figures, with an equal distribution of malnutrition in both boys and girls. The socioeconomic factor in strata III and IV of Graffar represents a risk of malnutrition. Most of the population in the rural area is malnourished. The frequency of food consumption is not associated with malnutrition.
