Revisión de la literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2021) León Araujo, Cinthia Jhanina; Morocho Macas, Ángel Aurelio; 0302654736; ., .OBJECTIVE: To provide an overview of the literature on the application of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in dentistry, in order to distinguish their future trends, by recognizing their advances, their participation in dental education and their clinical applications in maxillofacial surgery. and implantology, pediatric dentistry, dental surgery and oral rehabilitation. METHODOLOGY: A literature search was carried out in different scientific bases to develop a reflexive critical analysis of the content of original and review articles from the last five years in the SCOPUS, Web of Science and PubMed databases, obtaining 48 selected documents relevant to the study. the study. For the selection of information, the DeCs and MeSH descriptors guide was used. RESULTS: it was determined that in maxillofacial surgery and implantology, it helps us to effectively and efficiently recognize dental instruments, as well as the anatomical identification where the implant will be placed; in pediatric dentistry, it motivates pediatric patients to acquire more knowledge about brushing techniques and thus prevent oral diseases; in dental surgery it improves skills of preparation, removal and restoration of dental pieces; in oral rehabilitation, it helps us digitize three-dimensional models for subsequent rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS: Currently and in the future, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are necessary tools for preclinical training, due to their application in different dental areas, aimed at improving clinical skills and competencies of professionals.Ítem Acceso Abierto Robótica aplicada en la odontología.
