- ÍtemAcceso Abierto“Conocimientos de Alzheimer y demencia en estudiantes de prácticas preprofesionales de enfermería.”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Castillo González, Anahi Daniela; Patiño Quizhpi, Monserrath Viviana; Ramírez Coronel, Andrés Alexis; 0302710397; 0302984893; ., .Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a hereditary pathogenesis characterized by loss of neurons and synapses, senile plaques, and neurofibrillary degeneration. Objective: To determine the knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and dementia in pre-professional nursing internship students to develop intervention programs to help improve knowledge in students. Method: The research was conducted with a non-experimental quantitative, descriptive correlational, prospective, and cross-sectional approach. The sample comprised 186 nursing students. Two scales, ADKS and DKAS-S, were applied to assess knowledge. Results: It is noted that there is a low level of knowledge about Alzheimer's disease and dementia, especially among university students. This fact is reflected in the high percentage of incorrect answers and unawareness in critical areas related to the disease. This situation highlights the need to improve education and consciousness on the subject, especially among health students, to ensure a better comprehension and an adequate approach to this health condition. Conclusion: The ADKS and DKAS-S scales were valid and reliable instruments both as a whole and as individual items to detect knowledge in pre-professional internship students.
