The selection of a career can be influenced by ideas, conceptions, suggestions or impositions of their own, family or friends, lack of training and guidance and the non-observance of their own abilities and the reality of the environment, lead to wrong decision making and possible desertion. Therefore, to identify the factors associated with the decision to prefer a university degree in Azogues and Biblián - Ecuador, a quantitative research was carried out, with an exploratory, descriptive and correlational scope, cross-sectional and non-experimental. It indicates that the first factor considered when selecting a career is the possibility of obtaining a job, to access better salaries and not find an excessive professional offer in your area, and the second factor it is the monetary one, associated with the family budget. Concluding that the dependent variable choosing a university degree is correlated with the labor market (0.631**), personal aptitudes (0.729**), family tradition (0.345**) and the family budget (0.619* *), and it is statistically significant because the statistical test is less than 0.05 of the p-value.
