Ítem Acceso Abierto Depresión en los adultos mayores, prevalencia y factores asociados: Una revisión sistemática(Universidad Católica de Cuenca, 2022-10-17) Neira Neira, Diana Filomena; Mejia, Israel; 030195087-9Abstract Introduction: Depression is an important suffering and disability source among older adults. Due to its coexistence with aging processes, medical illnesses and different factors, it may not be diagnosed in time. Objective: To leam scientific evidence on depression in older adults and its prevalence and associated factors using a systematic review. Methods: The research was carried out through the PRISMA method and a literature review with a qualitative approach and a descriptive-narrative research. Some filters were used, such as publications, and keywords. Results: The information obtained was classified into five categories based on several factors: age and sex, education level, living on their own, physical function and chronic diseases, the prevalence of global depression when analyzing the 18 articles was 35.5%. The most influential factors were age greater than or equal to 75 years, female sex, and lack of education; then low physical activity, living on their own and the existence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer, cardiac, stroke and respiratory problems in the whole population. Conclusions: The emotional disorder of depression causes constant sadness, leading to a loss of interest in older adults to perform daily activities. This health problem is influenced by biopsychosocial factors, lack of support, life stressors and comorbidities. Keywords: depression, older adults, prevalence, associated factors.
