Ítem Acceso Abierto Factores asociados al síndrome de muerte súbita del lactante(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Reyes Coronel, Laura Cristina; González Cárdenas, Juan Manuel; 0104927538Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is "the sudden and unexpected death of an infant under one year of age that remains unexplained after a complete investigation of the case, including a death scene analysis, autopsy, and detailed review of the clinical history." Objective: To describe the factors associated with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Methods: A systematic review was conducted based on the PRISMA 2020 parameters, with a qualitative approach with an explanatory, descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional design founded on studies published in Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Results: The mortality rate of SIDS varies from 0.64 to 2/1000 live births, according to WHO data. Among the risk factors, they were classified into maternal risk factors (smoking, alcohol or drug consumption, dual exposure, maternal age, educational and socioeconomic conditions) related to the infant (family history, prematurity, low birth weight, age, and sex), sleep, environment and sleep-related factors (sleeping position, co-sleeping, bedding and crib accessories, head coverings, hyperthermia, environmental toxins) and genetic factors (cardiac and non-cardiac) and brain stem malformations. In addition, protective factors such as breastfeeding, pacifier use, and immunizations were described. SIDS is a multifactorial disorder, that can be triggered by one or more of these factors, and it is essential to identify them to apply the necessary preventive measures.
