Electronic databases were used to search for scientific articles, bibliographic managers were used to organize the information, the extraction of information was individualized for each article, and a bibliographic search matrix was used, including the articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The prevalence of self-medication identified in Latin America ranged from 42% to 88.3%, and the main medications were mainly NSAIDs and antibiotics, among others. The main factors associated with the studies included in this research were educational level, lack of health coverage, and male sex, among others.
