Ítem Acceso Abierto Uso de plantas medicinales en tiempo de pandemia covid-19.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca, 2022-07-01) Castillo Bernal, Sandra Violeta; Peralta Cardenas, Maria Fernanda; 030222421-7The use of medicinal plants is based on what ancestors know about them. For decades, they have passed on such knowledge, and even more during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the Ecuadorian population has used them as an alternative in the prevention and treatment of such diseases. The systematic review of the literature was based on a meta-study, which was guided by a reflexive character, through an exhaustive analysis of the gathered results by taking into consideration the criteria of eligibility in both Spanish and English from the articles published between the years 2018 and 2022, as well as the use of keywords, joined through the Boolean operators. The article reviews in the scientific databases allowed analyzing how the medicinal plants became a complementary treatment for Covid-19 due to their analgesic, anti-inflammatory, retroviral properties and especially species that strengthen the immune system, helping in this way, to reduce the number of contagions and in other cases reducing the clinical manifestations of the pathology. Medicinal plants have become a complementary resource in the great majority of American, European, Asian, and Oriental countries, mainly among their natives, which allowed counteracting the contagions and several secondary effects of the disease, supplying in some way the needs of the population regarding their health-disease process. Keywords: medicinal practice, medicinal plants, ancestral medicine, covid-19 pandemic
