Análisis microbiológico del instrumental de odontología en prácticas pre profesional

Objective: To determine the presence of microorganisms found in dental instruments through microbiological analysis. Materials and methods: A descriptive and observational study was conducted, with 82 samples divided into two specific groups (37 diagnostic sets and 45 high and low-speed drills). The samples were taken randomly in the dental clinic during the pre-professional internship at the Catholic University of Cuenca from instruments belonging to students from the fifth to the tenth level of the Dentistry program. Results: The data analysis was based on percentages with the presence of Colony Forming Units (CFU) and different microorganisms, obtaining 37% contamination with various microorganisms (yeasts, gram-negative bacilli, Staphylococcus Sp). Conclusion: The dental instruments had the presence of specific microorganisms after sterilization, and this situation could be attributed to the contamination of the dental clinic environment since the surrounding is a specific habitat for the colonization of microorganisms.
