- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAnálisis de empleo de bloques de poliestireno, bloque pómez y casetones plásticos para el alivianamiento de losas rectangulares en edificaciones multifamiliares(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2019) Macancela Córdova, Leonardo Saúl; Illescas Cárdenas, Paúl Esteban; 0302308119; ., .This graduation work is about an economic analysis of a multifamily building, which was built in reinforced concrete, with building elevation variations and material used to lighten reticular slabs. The evaluated materials are: polystyrene blocks, pumice blocks and plastic panels. Depending on the specific weight of each type of lightening, the resistant structure varies the sections of its structural elements, establishing an advantage for lower weight specific materials. The material showing the best results is expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks. Due to a structural analysis, it is shown that this material generates columns sections, beams and footings smaller than those of greater specific weight. This study is structured within a scientific research practical method. It was used computational models of matrix analysis were used to determine structural sections that comply with resisting design requests and to verify their weight among lightening options. As a result, it was obtained structural elements dimensions and the budget for each building’s height. Based on these data, verification graphs have been created according to the cost of each analyzed construction system.
- ÍtemEmbargoAnálisis y aplicación de la mezcla de hormigón con poliestireno expandido en detalles constructivos (mesones de cocina)(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Macancela Correa , Alex Javier; Illescas Cárdenas, Paúl Esteban; 0302702956; ., .This research focuses on examining the combination of concrete and expanded polystyrene. This specific mixture contributes to achieving a considerably lighter structure. In addition, its physical-mechanical characteristics are highlighted, providing adequate compressive, shear, tensile, and flexural strength and good elasticity. For the project, concrete cylinders were manufactured, mixing different percentages of polystyrene (5%, 10%, 20%, 25%, and 50%) to replace the fine aggregate, testing the strength ranges that this type of concrete must meet according to ASTM C-330. According to the results of the tabulated tests, following the procedures established by the ASTM C78 and ASTM C39 standards, the mix that was taken complies with the flexural strength ranges between 5.94 Mpa, and 15.37 Mpa, and has a lower weight than the usual concrete dosage. In this case, the mix within the range issued by the UNE-EN 12372 standard, meeting the mentioned criteria and having a lighter weight than other mixes, is concrete with 50% polystyrene. This mix will produce prefabricated slabs employed as kitchen countertops, forming part of a construction detail for any social housing, and could be used instead of granite.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoDiseño de la red de alcantarillado de los sectores Tres Esquinas, La Dolorosa y Jerusalen Bajo de la Parroquia Jerusalen, del cantón Biblian(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2018) Carangui Ramírez, Juan Carlos; Illescas Cárdenas, Paúl Esteban; 0301529061; ., .The present graduation work focuses objectively on the study and design of the sanitary sewer system for the evacuation of wastewater in three sectors of the parish of Jerusalem, the excreta are treated through septic tanks, the rest is discharged directly into streams. nearby. The water from domestic use has the streets as a discharge point, generating an environment conducive to the proliferation of epidemics, producing a bad visual appearance and bad odors in the area. In winter, the problem tends to increase, since, since there is not an adequate sanitary sewerage system, the deterioration of the area's road network is premature. This project is complemented by the technical specifications necessary for proper operation, and the choice of construction processes and suitable materials
The objective of the present work is to carry out a geometric road design proposal between the communities of Quínua and Buil Guapán, belonging to the Guapan parish of the Azogues canton. The proposal was aimed at improving the living conditions of the habitants of the area, considering that the communities are grouped within the parish include population settlements that have been established in a disorderly manner; This stage means that currently there are roads that do not have the proper characteristics for vehicle traffic. Based on the problems described, a design was developed that presents alignments and sections made with standardized designs such as the NEVI 12 postulated by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. The project also contemplates rigid and flexible pavement design, which has been proposed following the AASHTO 93 method, adopted in Ecuador in coherence with current regulations. Activities were carried out such as the topographical survey, which allowed to know in detail the current road characteristics; in addition, a soil study and a traffic study, which allowed to obtain relevant information on civil engineering and design standards. Finally, the geometric design and the design of pavements under specific norms and standards are included, with the purpose of completing the report with data referring to the costs of execution of the work.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoPropuesta de solución al congestionamiento vehicular mediante la aplicación del sistema pico y placa en el centro de la ciudad de Azogues(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2018) Álvarez Rodríguez, Luis Alfredo; Illescas Cárdenas, Paúl Esteban; 0302441316; ., .This document presents the study of the Pico y Placa System as a solution proposal to the problem of traffic jams produced in Azogues downtown, in order to improve mobility in the studied area and reduce the difficulties that daily affect the users of the road systems. To accomplish the objective, vehicular appraisals were made in the different road sections of the city resulting in high traffic volumes within rush hours due to the existence of different educational units, private and municipal institutions, and the commercial movement that develops within it. It was established, as an answer, the application of the measurement of Pico y Placa in downtown, thus achieving the reduction of the levels of vehicular flows in the hours of greatest demand, but not the total elimination of the identified problem, since it could be noticed that, but not the total elimination of the identified problem, since it could be noticed that there are hours where there is still traffic that flows over the capacity of the road systems considered. Consequently, it can be concluded that the measurement of Pico y Placa is not a total solution to the problem of traffic jams but it would help improve mobility within Azogues downtown.

- ÍtemEmbargoUso de plásticos reciclados en remplazo de agregados finos para la fabricación de hormigón estructural y su aplicación en el cantón Azogues.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Aulestia Pesántez, Milton Adrian; Illescas Cárdenas, Paúl Esteban; 0302196274; .Deficiencies in solid waste management, especially plastics, constitute a significant problem for natural ecosystems and public health. In response to this issue, recycling emerges as an alternative to the conflict, providing added value to waste. Therefore, this research describes the potential application of crushed recycled plastics to replace a percentage of stone aggregates in the production of concrete with designs of 180, 210, and 240 kg/cm2, using plastic percentages of 5 and 10% for each mix, defining their compliance range according to the Ecuadorian Technical Standard (NTE by its Spanish acronym). The evolution of sample strengths over time is reported, with the results show that the 240 kg/cm2 sample, designed with 10% and 5% plastic aggregates, showed a decrease in strength compared to the control specimen. The same occurred with the 210 kg/cm2 and 180 kg/cm2 sample. In general, numerical terms, the differences in strengths at 28 days, on average, have decreased by 30.43% in samples with 10% plastic incorporation instead of sand, while samples with 5% plastic incorporation show a 13.14% decrease in strength. This establishes a basis that supports the notion of an unsuccessful use of this material to achieve a higher degree of resistance in structural elements.
