- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAtención en el cuidado del adulto mayor residente en centros gerontológicos: Una revisión sistemática.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca, 2022-10-06) Zhizhingo Villacis, Luis Andres; Ochoa Maldonado, Katty; 030260277-6ABSTRACT Over time, the life expectancy of senior citizens and the number of gerontological centers increased. This study aims to analyze and understand good care practices in gerontological centers for elderly residents. A systematic review of studies published in scientific databases from 2018 in English and Spanish was carried out. The data obtained were classified into five categories: general guidelines, suitable environment, behavioral organization, nursing care, and the effects of good care on older people in gerontological centers. As a result, it was found that the new model of care is person-centered, which contributes to the autonomy of the elderly. The environment should stimulate their home, providing all the safety to prevent falls, which includes signage, ramps, handholds, and good lighting. In addition, much attention is paid to green spaces as they reduce the prevalence of mental disorders; in terms of human resources, multidisciplinary work is essential. It was noticed that there is a deficit in Ecuador compared to other countries; the nurses play an important administrative, operational and research role; social and recreational activities are also essential. Finally, all the factors above are critical for the well-being of older adults, emphasizing the development of geriatric nursing through ongoing training programs on this issue. Research is still necessary to determine the quality of care locally. Keywords: elderly, gerontological center, geriatric nursing.

Objective: To determine the efficiency of the hospital-waste management through a systematic revision. Methodology: This is a meta-qualitative systematic review. Ten studies from different data bases such as Redalyc, PubMed, SciELO and Google Scholar both in English and Spanish, published in the last 5 years were included. Results: Ten scientific papers were reviewed in order to gather the necessary information; such information addresses the efficiency of hospital-waste management. Conclusions: Hospital-waste management are the main problem related to the health staff´s biosecurity, therefore, it is important to elaborate a training program related to hospital-waste management in order to raise awareness in the health staff, avoiding putting both the health staff and general population at risk. - ÍtemAcceso Abiertosecuelas neurológicas en pacientes adultos mayores post- covid -19(Universidad Católica de Cuenca, 2022-07-01) Chimbo Vasquez, Daniela Belen; Ochoa Maldonado, Katty; 035018678-9Covid-19 is an acute respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus type 2. It causes greater complications in the elderly population. The virus has proved to have a neurotropic potential, which affects the nervous system. The objective of the study was to identify the neurological sequelae amongst such population through both a systematic review and a bibliographic analysis of the neurological sequelae or syndromes Post-Covid in older adults from scientific databases in articles published within the last three years. Therefore, seventeen studies were selected for the writing of the results and discussion. Among the results that stand out as the main neurological sequelae in older adults associated to Post-Covid-19 Syndrome include: fatigue 68.8%, hypogeusia 50.3% anosmia 39.1%, headache 28.3%, anxiety or depression 23%, sleep disorders 4.9%, ischemic stroke 2. 1%, alterations in brain functioning; especially in regions associated to cognition, numbness/tingling 60%, dysgeusia 59%, myalgia 55%, dizziness 47%, blurred vision 30%, tinnitus 29%. In addition, within the manifestations of the peripheral nervous system, the Guillain-Barre syndrome has been reported. Amongst the conclusions reached in the present study, the following stand out: Post-Covid sequelae are diverse and variable, specifically in this age group due to the vulnerability and comorbidities they show. Prevention is essential thus; awareness about the importance of immunization to reduce the rate of infection and severe disease should be increased.
