- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAnálisis de las propiedades físicos- mecánicas de la mampostería con perforación horizontal sometido a altas temperaturas(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Acosta Chilpe, Jefferson Mauricio; Cordero Cabrera, Carlos Julio; 0106700107; García Calle, Anthony AlxanderCurrently, horizontal perforated masonry is one of the most widely used materials in construction due to its strength and durability. However, there is a lack of knowledge about how this material behaves under different thermal conditions. Therefore, analyzing the physical-mechanical properties of horizontal perforated masonry subjected to high temperatures at different exposure times is crucial to assessing structural behavior. To start this research, horizontal perforated bricks, and mortars, beams, and brick panels were made to expose them to high temperatures for different times (5, 10, and 15 minutes), using a blowtorch, domestic gas, and a refractory oven. Compression strength tests reported that the masonry panel exposed to 15 minutes of fire lost 9% of strength compared to the base panel. The brick exposed for 15 minutes decreased by 37% in compression strength. The mortar exposed for 15 minutes showed a 58% reduction. The trio model lost 26% of tangential bond strength compared to the standard model. The gas emission test indicated that the average CO levels in five samples were 561 PPM. Heat transmission at higher temperatures resulted in a minor temperature difference in the indirect part not exposed to fire. Beams decreased their flexural strength by 69.5% compared to the standard model.

- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoComportamiento físico y mecánico de elementos expuestos al fuego: mampostería +enlucido (paneles de ladrillo)(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Galarza Lituma, Carlos David; Molina Campoverde, Emmanuel Esteban; Cordero Cabrera, Carlos Julio; 0106888027; 0104931399This research analyzed the physical and mechanical behavior of brick panels with plaster exposed to fire conditions (simulated in an oven manufactured in Ricaurte in the laboratories of the University). Specifically, it was tested how exposure to high temperatures for periods of 5, 10, and 15 minutes affects the structural performance of the panels. Compression and flexural tests were also conducted on panels in two variations: - Plaster on both sides (Both faces of the panel) and - The plaster is on only one side (One-panel face). The results show changes in the panels' strength and load-carrying capacity after fire exposure. The most significant aspect of the tests is that the adhesion between brick and plaster is lost as the time in the oven increases, meaning that the mortar mostly suffers from a decrease in its resistance during the tests. However, it is emphasized that plaster is of utmost importance to protect the joints between bricks, preventing collapse due to heat. In all cases, the panel's performance depends on the masonry's properties and the plaster's additional protection. This study highlights the importance of considering the effect of fire on structural design, safe construction with masonry, and considering construction processes after design. The results provide relevant evidence on the behavior of this type of construction element under simulated fire conditions.

- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoMadera de eucalipto y teca: análisis del comportamiento físico y mecánico frente a la exposición al fuego(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Acosta Chilpe, Wilson Favian; Cordero Cabrera, Carlos Julio; 0105191464; García CalleThis project aims to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of two wood species (Teak and Eucalyptus) before and after exposure to controlled fire to determine their strength and predict their behavior after being exposed to fire in different periods. In order to achieve the expected results, laboratory tests were conducted, such as compression, flexural, gas emission, moisture content, and thermal transmission, which consisted of designing specimens with the measurements specified in ASTM D 143 and then placing them in a refractory oven at times of 5, 10, and 15 minutes. The results reveal that when the specimens are exposed to fire, they lose more than 30% of compression strength compared to the standard sample. Eucalyptus had a higher moisture content, with a difference of 30% compared to Teak. Eucalyptus exposed to fire for 15 minutes emitted 330 PPM of CO, while Teak emitted 420 PPM; however, the release of other toxic gases was not detected. Elastic modulus results revealed that samples exposed to fire for 15 minutes lost more than 50% of elasticity compared to the standard samples. Thermal transmission showed that, over time, the temperature increases due to water evaporation from the fibers. The flexural test determined that samples exposed to fire lost more than 25% of their load-bearing capacity compared to samples under normal conditions.
