It is evident that the economy in the La Troncal canton was also affected due to the 2020 pandemic. The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the profitability of the commercial sector, specifically focusing on appliance businesses in the La Troncal canton. The study's methodology employed a mixed approach with a descriptive scope. The population under investigation consisted of appliance businesses within the La Troncal canton. Convenience sampling was used for the sample selection process, focusing on the nearest establishments. The research utilized a survey administered to the employees of the appliance businesses to understand their perception regarding the economic impact of COVID-19 on the commercial sector. Interviews were also conducted with managers and those responsible for the accounting area of the selected businesses to gain insight into the pandemic's impact on business profitability. The results revealed that employees acknowledged a significant effect on business activity and productivity, ranging from 60% to 79%. In the interviews, participants confirmed a noticeable decrease in the profitability of the businesses, primarily attributed to challenges in import and export.
