Revisión de literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2020) López Jara, Gladys Magali; Calderón A., Dóris; 0105238877; Medina, PriscilaNon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are widely used drugs in dental practice, they constitute the first therapeutic line of pain in various pathologies, they fulfill important functions in the treatment of pain and inflammation and their prescription is part of the daily life of health professionals. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review was to determine the criteria for the use of NSAIDs in dental practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A bibliographic review was carried out in databases such as PubMed (MEDLINE), Scopus, Scielo, Google book and academic, 36 references were selected based on their abstract, review articles, theses, books, journal articles were included in electronic format, dental journals, published during the last 5 years in English, Spanish. Articles that were not within the specified dates (20152020), monographs and experimental studies without satisfactory results were excluded. RESULTS: It was determined that the anti-inflammatories frequently used in dentistry are Ibuprofen, Diclofenac and Naproxen, acting quickly on acute or chronic pain, mainly in odontalgias, pulp pathologies and extractions. The usual adverse effects caused by NSAIDs were also established: gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and renal risk, caused by the irrational use of these drugs. CONCLUSIONS: The criteria for the use of NSAIDs in Dentistry take into consideration the age of the patient, the analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antiplatelet effect, the type of acute or chronic pain, the pathological state, dental pain, pulp pathologies, extractions and finally the effects adverse, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and renal.
