Prevalencia de caries no tratadas mediante el índice pufa en escolares de áreas rurales del cantón Azogues 2019

OBJECTIVE. To determine the prevalence of untreated caries through the PUFA index in schoolchildren in rural areas of the canton Azogues 2019. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Type of descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study, the study population consisted of 825 schoolchildren of 6 and 12 years belonging to the Educational Units of the rural parishes of the city of Azogues. RESULTS: 198 6year-old schoolchildren with untreated caries were found, with a higher prevalence in male sex (52%) over female sex (48%), plus 126 12-year-old schoolchildren with untreated caries, of these, were found to be older prevalence in men with 57% over women with 43%. CONCLUSIONS In the 6-year-old schoolchildren, there was a higher prevalence of untreated caries in the male sex, with a higher prevalence of pulpitis, and of these, the most affected tooth was number 5.5. Similarly, in 12-yearold children, there was a higher prevalence of untreated caries in men, mainly pulpitis, and the most affected tooth was number 3.6.
