Introduction: Open abdomen is a concept that encompasses not only a traumatic condition but also a surgical technique for the management of concomitant pathologies. It also implies various associated complications that can affect and diminish the efficacy of temporary abdominal closure techniques. Therefore, the adequate selection of these techniques is crucial for an optimal therapeutic approach. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of two specific techniques (VAC therapy and Bogota bag). Several studies have not identified significant differences in associated mortality between these techniques; however, variations in complications, such as infection risk and total resolution time, have been observed. The use of VAC therapy has shown a lower incidence of these complications. Objective: To describe the use of the Bogota bag and negative pressure therapy gor managing of open abdomen. Conclusions: In a pathology where hemodynamic compromise and the patient's life are severely threatened, active management techniques should be implemented to achieve early resolution and reduce associated complications.
