A documentary review methodology was applied to achieve this objective, with a qualitative approach and descriptive scope. The study began with a literature review in Scopus, Taylor & Francis, Web of Science, Google Scholar, SciELO, Redalyc, PubMed, and PsycINFO to search for information related to the consequences of the substances mentioned above in adolescents in Latin America. According to the main results obtained, the regular consumption of alcoholic beverages or cannabinol causes several physiological and psychological complications. This results in addiction development, persistent sleeping problems, decreased libido and loss of sexual interest, encouragement of pre-existing violent behavior, cardiovascular accidents, sporadic auditory and visual hallucinations, and some psychopathic traits. Risk factors included conditions such as a history of intra-family consumption, availability of drugs or antecedents of drugs in the family, and socioeconomic situations, which were found to be determinants in the development of adolescent consumption habits. It was also found that the behavioral affectations and psychological alterations caused in adolescent alcohol and cannabis consumers in different Latin American countries report similarities due to the prevalence of alterations in cognitive capacity
