Materials and Methods: The study's approach is quantitative with a descriptive-cross-sectional design, with an observational technique, within the field setting study through a clinical examination. Results: The study was conducted on 90 children, 33 males and 57 females, from the "Lolita Andrade" and "Mi pequeño Mundo" Child Development Centers in Cañar city. The most frequent oral or dentomaxillary consequence of the habit is deep palate followed by dental crowding and hypertonic lip, predominance in children aged from 1 year to 1 year 11 months, female sex, and urban origin. Conclusion: It was concluded that the prevalence of this habit was relatively low in a population of 90 children from the child development centers in Cañar canton, being deep palate the most remarkable dentomaxillary consequence, followed by dental crowding, hypertonic lip, gingivitis, open bite, and incisive vestibularization. Thumb sucking is also presented more frequently according to the socio-demographic variables in children from 1 year to 1 year 11 months of female sex and urban origin. Finally, it was noted that children with thumb-sucking habits presented more than one dentomaxillary anomaly.
