Objective: This study aims to identify the classification of HSW in dental offices. Methods: A qualitative literature review was conducted. The proper classification of waste in dental offices involves categorizing it into various types, including non-hazardous, hazardous, infectious, bio-sanitary, sharps, chemical, and biodegradable waste. Additionally, the classification of waste containers by color (green, black, red, and gray) was analyzed. Conclusions: Proper management of HSW within dental practices is crucial, involving the responsible actions of healthcare professionals and cleaning and sterilization personnel. Regulations exist that specify the appropriate management of waste based on its composition, characteristics, and level of risk. However, despite the existence and dissemination of these regulations, healthcare personnel do not always implement them correctly, leading to inadequate waste disposal practices. This study provides valuable information to promote proper waste management and increase awareness of waste production in dental healthcare settings.
