The family environment may influence its adherence to pharmacological and non- pharmacological treatment. Objective: To determine family functionality and its influence on uncontrolled arterial hypertension in Azogues city from December 2022 to March 2023. Methodology: It was a quantitative, observational, correlational, and cross-sectional field study. The sample consisted of 234 adults aged 27 years and older, including men and women living in Azogues city; two instruments were applied: The APGAR Family Functionality Scale and the Morisky Hypertension Treatment Adherence Test. Results: Most of the participants were women (75,5%), the mean age was 70 years, lived in rural áreas (75,5%), belonged to mononuclear families (37,6%), with mild, moderate, and severe family dysfunction (62,82%). The percentage of people with high blood pressure was (21,3%). No relationship was found between uncontrolled hypertension and the degree of family dysfunction. Conclusion: Hypertensive individuals living in both functional and dysfunctional families have not managed to stabilize their blood pressure values; therefore, family functioning does not influence the control of the disease.
