MATERIALS AND METHODS: The methodology applied was quantitative, descriptive and transversal; the population was constituted by 2670 students, while the sample size was 189 students, the OHIP 14-aesthetic questionnaire was applied, in this study, an individual count of the points obtained was carried out according to the responses of this instrument, whose results indicate a value of 0 (no impact) to 14 (high impact) points. RESULTS: When sex was related to the impact on the quality of life, it was found that there is no significant relationship, obtaining a value (p = 0.246), also when relating to age, no statistically significant association was found (p = 0.132). Regarding the question with the greatest frequency of impact was: Have you felt that life in general was less satisfactory due to problems with your teeth? with 62.4%, while the question with less frequency was: Have you felt that there is less flavor in your food due to problems with your teeth? with 3.2%, with respect to the dimensions, the most affected domain was psychological discomfort, followed by physical pain and the least scored were at a disadvantage and social incapacity. CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that, in a general way, self-perception does influence the quality of life of people.
