Ítem Acceso Abierto Alteraciones metabólicas y su relación con el índice de masa corporal(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Tsenkush Chamik, Etsa Robinson; Mora Domínguez, Gina Fabiola; 1400992150Introduction: The overweight and obese population fall within the range where they present factors that increase the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, including dyslipidemia, hypertension, insulin resistance or prediabetes, and central obesity. Objective: To analyze metabolic alterations and their relationship with body mass index. Methods: This study consists of a review in which scientific information from articles published in indexed journals such as PubMed and Scopus was collected. The search for information will utilize related terms provided by MeSH, as well as boolean operators "AND," "NOT," and "OR," which can be combined for more precise results. Relevant information will be selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: BMI is an indicator that, along with the alteration of one of the parameters of metabolic syndrome, suggests an association with long-term metabolic diseases in the patient. Conclusions: High BMI is related to metabolic dysfunctions that magnify the risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and liver diseases. Early detection of metabolic alterations and adopting a healthy lifestyle are important in preventing long-term complications
