Ítem Acceso Abierto Aplicaciones clínicas pediátricas de los probióticos en la primera infancia: Una revisión sistemática(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Torres Tamay, Samantha Marisol; Altamirano Cárdenas, Luis Francisco; 0302995493Probiotics are considered one of the significant advances in pediatrics, as they provide a reliable alternative to prevent and address a series of digestive disorders that may affect infants' physical growth and neuronal development. Objective: To identify the most commonly used probiotics and their benefits and adverse effects during early childhood. Methodology: This is a systematic review conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, involving the selection of articles from high-impact scientific databases available at the Monseñor Froilán Pozo Quevedo Library, Catholic University of Cuenca Campus Azogues, such as PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, Redalyc, SciELO, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Results: The most commonly used supplements include Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus GG, and Saccharomyces, with various strains targeted at treating different conditions. These compounds do not have significant adverse effects; however, typical side effects include gas, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomachache, bloating, and abdominal pain. Conclusions: The benefits of probiotics include the proliferation of beneficial bacteria, strengthening the immune system, regulating the pH of the digestive tract, and providing nutritional support
