- ÍtemAcceso Abierto“Tratamiento periodontal en pacientes con enfermedades cardiovasculares ateroscleróticas: Una Revisión Sistemática”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2022) Córdova Ortega, Hevelyn Salomé; Sotamba Espinoza, Sandra Soledad; Tello Terán, Damián Alfredo; 0706076734; 0705898716; ., .Periodontal disease is a risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease due to an existing link associated with the systemic effects of bacteria. Objective: To determine whether periodontal therapy decreases the levels of blood markers of cardiovascular disease. Materials and methods: The authors independently researched the literature on the subject presented through the IOP question. This search was developed in three phases: 1. Using keywords in different databases and journals, such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Journal of Clinical Periodontology, to obtain information. 2. The bias of the studies was found using CONSORT 2010, obtaining a low one. 3. An analytical synthesis of each study was done and is expressed in the results. Results: Periodontal therapy shows a statistically significant reduction in blood biomarkers such as C- reactive protein (CRP), leukocytes, high-density lipoproteins (HDL-C), low-density lipoproteins (LDL-C), triglycerides, total cholesterol, intercellulin – 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), homocysteine (Hcy), monocyte chemoattractant protein – 1 (MCP-1), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), which are associated with atherosclerotic CVD. Conclusions: Analysis of the information from the studies determined that periodontal therapy (debridement plus root planning and scaling) has a significant positive effect on reducing biomarker levels in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
