Objective: To analyze the state-of-the-art nutritional assessment associated with iron deficiency anemia in children under five years of age in Latin American and Caribbean countries. Methodology: Systematic, retrospective review of the relationship between nutritional status and iron deficiency anemia by searching information in scientific databases based on the PRISMA statement from 2012 to 2022 in English and Spanish, using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Of 592,703 titles obtained, 28 were suitable for the study. It was found that sociodemographic factors intervene in the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia. It uncovered that anemia has a statistically significant relationship with nutritional status and that the different countries' strategies proposed to reduce it were positive. Conclusion: Nutritional status and sociodemographic factors are related to iron deficiency anemia in preschoolers, and the plans suggested in the articles to reduce the prevalence of anemia were successful.
