Ítem Acceso Abierto Complicaciones por ahorcamiento fallido(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Siguencia Lozano , Wilmer Alberto; Hidalgo Pozo, María José; 0302918669Background: Currently, one of the major public health problems faced is suicide; according to World Health Organization (WHO) reports, over half a million people die annually from self-inflicted injuries. The commonly employed method is self-poisoning, followed by mechanical asphyxiation through hanging and the use of firearms; among the at-risk groups are individuals with mental disorders and those deprived of liberty. A previous suicide attempt by any method is the primary risk factor to consider in preventing death from self-inflicted injury. Objective: To investigate the complications following failed mechanical asphyxia by hanging through a literature review. Method: The PRISMA method will guide this literature research. The search will be conducted on databases such as Scopus, Redalyc, and Medigrapyc, which publish articles with detailed information about the matter. This study will use various keywords for a more specific search concerning the topic, along with selection criteria and documents published in the last five years. Results: Through the analysis of forensic medical information obtained from various scientific articles, the aim is to get a bibliographic review of the complications that occur after mechanical asphyxia by failed hanging. The results will permit to know each of these complications, as well as their pathophysiology, the mechanism by which the injury occurs, and the therapeutic approach in the first instance.
