This research aims to describe through a literature review the complications caused by this irrigant when it infiltrates periapical tissues. It is essential to properly manage this type of accident, following the protocols to provide a correct solution. Sodium hypochlorite is currently the most commonly used irrigant during endodontic consultation; however, some complications can be reversed by utilizing appropriate materials, such as a dental rubber dam, for the patient to finish the treatment safely, although the course of therapy can be significantly affected. The professional should know how to distinguish and act correctly in case of any problem related to the misuse of this solution.
