Artículo de revisión(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Sempertegui Pillajo, Erick Damian; Sarmiento Criollo, Patricio Fernando; 0106632524Introduction: As restorative dentistry focuses on diagnosing and treating hard and soft tissues, maintaining the integrity of the tooth is critical and causal in every sense by maintaining restorations over time. Comprehensive knowledge of biomaterials benefits the durability of restorations, improving the quality and life of fillings and patient economy. Objective: To determine the durability of composite resins when applied directly and indirectly in posterior teeth. Methods: The search resulted in 166 articles, 94 publications in Scopus, 35 in PubMed, 4 in Web Of Science, and 41 in ProQuest. A total of 139 articles were excluded based on noncompliance with the selection criteria; 27 articles were selected for eligibility, associating different durability effects of resins. Results: The studies focus their research on making the best clinical decisions. Based on the articles reviewed according to their advantages and disadvantages, it was determined that the durability is higher with indirect nanohybrid resins in the posterior area due to their advanced properties and effectiveness while complying with the protocols and their high cost as a disadvantage. Conclusions: Indirect posterior restorations showed higher durability in extensive repairs, increasing the success rate to 8 years compared to direct resins. Regarding direct resin restorations, we achieved results that require less time working with the placed composites, providing a favorable outcome and durability that showed an average life of 4 to 5 years before replacing the resin when protocols are followed properly.
