Ítem Acceso Abierto Prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal en escolares de 12 años del cantón Azogues, período 2018(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2019) Sarmiento León, Valeria Estefanía; Calderon Barzallo, Mario Leonardo; 0302587506; ., .OBJECTIVE: Analyze the prevalence of periodontal disease in 12-year-old schoolchildren of the Azogues, during the 2018 period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was descriptive with a quantitative approach with 303 students from private and public schools in the canton of Azogues chosen with the modality for convenience. The Russell scale was used to determine the prevalence of periodontal disease. The data obtained were recorded in the EPI INFO program and after that they were migrated to an Excel database, and Chi Square was applied to identify significant relationships between variables. RESULTS: A 43% prevalence of periodontal disease was registered with 57% healthy students. Regarding sex, it is women who most frequently present the pathology with 23% and men with 20%, there being a significant relationship between sex and disease (0.02). According to the educational center, 23% of students with periodontal disease belonged to private schools and 20% to public schools. According to the Russell index, the prevalence of periodontal disease with grade 0 was 76%; grade 1 was 21% and grade 2 was 4%. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of periodontal disease in schoolchildren of 12 years of age in the Azogues was 43%, with 57% of students maintaining a healthy condition.
