Revisión de la literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Sanchez Granda, Samantha Elizabeth; Cuenca León, Katherine de los Ángeles; 0705302305General Objective: To collect information on phytotherapy treatments to address aphthous ulcers and cold sores. Materials and methods: Through a literature review in PubMed, Medline, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Taylor and Francis, and Google Scholar, all available papers on phytotherapy applied in the treatment of aphthous ulcers and cold sores were retrieved since April 4, 2023, to obtain clear and accurate information on the subject. Articles published in Spanish, English, and Portuguese from 2018 to 2023 were included. Articles that did not belong to the topic of phytotherapy in aphthous ulcers and cold sores and graduate or postgraduate thesis were excluded. Specific Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the medicinal plants’ topical application in treating oral lesions, such as aphthous ulcers and cold sores. To identify the most commonly used medicinal herbs in treating oral lesions. Results: Creams present 50% effectiveness in treating aphthous ulcers and oral herpes, while pastes and rinses present 75%. It is essential to highlight that the medicinal plants with the most remarkable healing potential and which have various presentations are chamomile, aloe vera, turmeric, and eucalyptus.
