Ítem Acceso Abierto Infertilidad como complicación de varicocele(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Saavedra Ruiz, Elvin Javier; Pérez Ruiz, Ariadna; 0705310050; ., .Antecedents: Varicocele is present in about 15% of the male population without pathology and near of 25% of men who present alterations in semen analysis. Primary infertility is present in patients up to 40% of, and in male individuals, secondary infertility is present in up to 80% with a diagnosis of varicocele. Objective: To determine the relationship between infertility as a complication of varicocele. Methods: This research is a literature review; information was obtained from different reliable databases such as PubMed, Cochrane, Medline, SciELO, and Elsevier, among others, thus managing to find related information that helped to understand more thoroughly, with articles from the last five years, which allow knowing if there is a relation between varicocele and infertility. Results: Varicocele is the most frequent clinical finding in infertile males, affecting spermatogenesis. The pathophysiology is under investigation. Varicocele has a damaging effect on the testes over time. Its treatment may help increase fertility by restoring blood flow to the scrotum and increasing sperm concentration and motility. Conclusions: Varicocele alters spermatogenesis; it is present in up to 40% of cases with primary infertility and up to 80% of men with secondary infertility. The most recommended treatment is microsurgical varicocelectomy.
