Ítem Acceso Abierto Lophomoniasis pulmonar en paciente pediátrico a propósito de un caso(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Rojas Cumbicus, Valeria Jackeline; Espinoza Daquilema, Juan Andrés; 1104890817Antecedents: Lophomona blattarum infection is a complex respiratory condition caused by inhalation of Lophomona blattarum cysts from cockroach feces. It manifests with variable symptoms, and its diagnosis is challenging. When respiratory compromise due to an infectious cause is detected, doctors frequently look for more common pathologies. However, a broader view requires considering several possible reasons that may present similar symptoms but require different treatments. In this context, the importance of pulmonary Lophomoniasis is emphasized. It is infrequent but relevant in the field of pulmonary infectious diseases. Therefore, this study aims to describe the clinical characteristics and treatment of a patient with pulmonary Lophomoniasis by analyzing information from the patient's medical history, complemented with articles related to this infection. Description of a clinical case: The case of a 6-year-old pediatric patient with a history of pneumonia and recurrent respiratory infections is presented. Due to a persistent cough with purulent sputum and hemoptysis, studies were conducted to address his medical condition. Among these, a bronchial secretion smear was performed, which reported Lophomonas spp. As a result, the patient received specific treatment and showed clinical improvement. Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of comprehensively evaluating children with persistent respiratory symptoms. Identifying the parasite allowed for determining the condition’s underlying cause and directing the treatment, effectively addressing the pulmonary infection.
