Revisión de literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Pinos Lopez, Kevin Alexis; Cuenca León, Katherine de los Ángeles; 0105434450Introduction: In response to the concern in the scientific field about the increasing resistance of the organism to certain drugs, medicinal and aromatic plants have opened a critical path in treating diseases, and infections in the mouth are no exception. This literature review aimed to analyze relevant information about lemon verbena (Cymbopogon citratus) and its antifungal effect in the oral cavity. Materials and methods: A bibliographic search was performed in electronic databases such as Google Scholar, SciELO, Taylor & Francis, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane using the Boolean operators OR, AND and NOT to obtain relevant references for selection. Discussion: The essential oil of lemon verbena (Cymbopogon citratus) has great antifungal action against fungal infection in the oral cavity. Mainly when its concentration is higher than 50%, it also acts on the acrylic structure of dental prostheses. Conclusions: The essential oil of lemon verbena (Cymbopogon Citratus) is the best natural medicine alternative to treat fungal infections in the oral cavity.
