Revisión de la literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2021) Pesántez Crespo, Jessica Karolina; Crespo Crespo, Cristina Mercedes; 0302297064; ., .OBJECTIVE: The objective of the present review was to evaluate the role of salivary tests for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 and the contribution in clinical care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The applied methodology corresponded to a literature review study following the applicable recommendations of the PRISMA criteria between the months of October 2020 until January 2021, the digital bases consulted were PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Ebscohost, SciELO, Springer, the languages were Spanish and English, prioritizing studies short systematic studies, pilot clinical trials, literature reviews, letters to the editor, resulting in a total of 38 studies analyzed RESULTS: The main results highlight that the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 in saliva would be a non-invasive, inexpensive procedure that allows rapid detection reduces the risk of nosocomial transmission; plus the specimens salivary glands are reliable in molecular analyses. CONCLUSIONS: There is already a important evidence of the high viral load detected in the oral fluid, whose presence and persistence has been verified in various experimental analyses; This situation allows early diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, enacting it in a simpler test, less expensive, less invasive and more accessible to perform molecular microbiological analysis.
