Revisión sistemática(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Peñafiel Torres, Gloria Bethsabe; Pérez Ruiz, Ariadna; 0302877097; ., .Erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve a rigid and lasting erection that generates sexual satisfaction; multifactorial factors cause it; it has an incidence of 20 to 40% in males over 20 years of age that increases with age. Objective: To characterize erectile sexual dysfunction. Method: A qualitative study is performed through a systematic information search in databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Cochrane, Redalyc, Scopus, Read by QxMD, and Medigraphic, from 2018 to 2022, described in English and Spanish, using PRISMA 2020 statement. Results: It is estimated that Erectile dysfunction affects 140 million men; 25% is of organic origin, another 25% is of psychological origin, 45% is of mixed cause, and 5% refers to other associated factors. Clinical and sexual records, physical examination, and analytical tests make the diagnosis possible. Treatment has an efficacy of 75% psychological therapy, 67-88% PDE5 inhibitors, 60-70% shock waves, 27-94% vacuum pumps, 70% alprostadil, 90% penile prosthesis, and 50-70% vascular reconstruction. Conclusions: Erectile dysfunction makes erection impossible and is prevalent in older adults. Among its main factors are diseases of cardiovascular, endocrinological, neurological, and psychological causes, so its diagnosis consists of identifying each one through a correct clinical history, tests, and complementary examinations, developing treatment options, such as lifestyle modifications, psychological therapy, erectogenic drugs, intracavernous injections, shock waves, and surgical interventions.
