MATERIALS AND METHODS: This research follows a descriptive quantitative approach. Epidemiological records were digitally collected using the Epi Info program. The sample comprised 104 schoolchildren aged 12 years, 59 females representing 57% of the sample and 45 males representing the remaining 43%. RESULTS: It was shown that 71% of the examined children experienced an impact of dental caries. According to gender, 78% of females presented an impact, compared to 62% of males. Regarding the quality of life, the females and males showed similarities in the most affected performance, "consuming food;" for females, it was 54%, and for males, it was 46%. Similarly, the least affected performance was "rest," with 59% reported by females and 41% by males. CONCLUSIONS: The 12-year-old school children in Baños parish showed a 71% impact of dental caries. A similar figure of self-perceived caries impact was found in both genders. Consuming food is the most affected performance in 12-year-old children in Baños parish.
