MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bibliographic search in databases such as: Scopus, Pubmed, Scielo, EBSCOhost, Dialnet, Elsevier, DOAJ, Medlinedental. The key words used were: consultation, clinical, dental, behavior, development, pediatric dentistry, psychology, clinical dental consultation, non- pharmacological techniques, behavioral theory, fear management and articles published in the period from 2016 to 2021 were included. Total of 73 bibliographic sources that were subsequently analyzed. RESULTS: The most common types of temperaments and behaviors of the infant that occur during the consultation were identified, as well as the factors that influence them, such as: parenting styles and fear of the dental consultation. Through the differentiation it was possible to establish the criteria to be taken into account in the approach to the consultation, establishing a flujogram of care for the pediatric odonto patient. CONCLUSIONS: The evaluation of the cognitive-behavioral characteristics of the pediatric dentistry patient is presented as a key point in the development of the dental consultation, this contributes to the specialist taking the pertinent measures and tools for the personalized approach of the child.
