General objective: To evaluate adherence, prevention, and control of arterial hypertension in Azogues. Methodology: A descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Sample: A number of 120 patients with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension from Azogues city. Techniques and instruments: Survey and interview, Morisky Green scale, and semi-structured interview. Results: According to data from the research, 54.2% were adherents, 60.8% were women, 50% were married, 36.7% were housewives, 44.2% had primary education, and 54.2% were from urban areas, 61.7% were not affiliated with any health insurance, 61.7% are not affiliated with the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS by its Spanish acronym). In the general examination, the mean age was 53.2 years old; the mean weight was 69.8, BMI was 28.6, and the abdominal circumference was 100.4cm. The mean systolic blood pressure was 131.6, and the diastolic blood pressure 76.1. Perceptions on prevention and control of the disease with the Atlas.ti were: they do not smoke and made significant changes in their lifestyle. Conclusions: Almost half of the participants are not adherent, are overweight, are not affiliated with the IESS, and changed their lifestyle.
