The challenge of effective postoperative pain management is highlighted, along with its impact on patient experience and recovery. Objective: the main objective of the article is to delve into the intersection between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and postoperative care. The focus is to explore how AI can enhance postoperative pain management by examining current techniques and their real-world impact on patients. Methodology: a narrative literature review was conducted as the research method. Eligibility criteria were established for article selection, and specific keywords were used to search academic databases. Data from selected articles were evaluated and extracted for subsequent analysis. Results: the results of several studies exploring the application of AI in postoperative pain management are presented. These studies encompass predicting extended opioid use after surgery, pain assessment through facial expression recognition, and reviewing current techniques and limitations in AI usage in anesthesiology. Conclusion: AI has proven to be valuable in postoperative pain management, offering innovative solutions such as predicting prolonged opioid use and pain assessment through facial expressions. The importance of a preventive approach, interdisciplinary collaboration, and rigor in implementing AI in healthcare is emphasized. While promising, AI also presents challenges that need to be addressed.
