The cardinal symptomatology is limited attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, which remain continuously and persistently in adolescence and adulthood. This research aimed to analyze genetic and environmental factors influencing this pathology. The methodology comprised a bibliographic review of documentary material indexed in the SciELO, EBSCO, Dialnet, and Redalyc data sources. The studies were selected based on inclusion criteria, including research published during the last five years; studies found as scientific articles, graduate or postgraduate theses and/or meta-analyses, literature in English and Spanish, and studies with open access and focused on ADHD. The results on genetic components showed that specific genes confer susceptibility to ADHD. The fragments identified with the highest incidence were FOXP2, SLC6A4, SNAP25, DRD4, and DRD5. Regarding environmental components, evidence corroborates that the consumption of psychoactive substances such as opioids during pregnancy, low gestational age, exposure to certain metals such as arsenic, lead, and bisphenol; omega-3 fatty acid deficiency, pregnancies with gestational diabetes mellitus and pregestational obesity increase the risk of perinatal and postnatal health affecting the neurological development of the child.
