Methodology: A narrative bibliographic review was conducted on high-impact scientific databases such as PubMed, ProQuest, Medigraphic, Scopus, SciELO, Dialnet, and institutional health pages from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan -American Health Organization (PAHO). Results: The data analyzed showed a higher prevalence in multiparous pregnant women in their first gestation trimester; most presented symptoms. The aspects that contribute to Zika infection are environmental, geographic, and socioeconomic factors; additionally, the complications associated with the fetus are Central Nervous System (CNS) malformations, microcephaly, and fetal death. Mothers presented spontaneous abortions and maternal death; this virus has no specific treatment; only the symptomatology is treated with analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and topical corticosteroids; a healthy lifestyle should be encouraged through nursing care to promote disease prevention. Conclusions: Zika is an infection that causes complications in the fetus and mothers, and the nurse focuses on promoting prevention. Keywords: pregnant women, Zika virus, prevalence, risk factors, complications, treatment, nursing care
