- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoFactores biopsicosociales que presentan los cuidadores de personas con discapacidad severa del cantón Azogues, septiembre 2018 - febrero 2019(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2019) Guillén González, Mercy Judith; Morocho Carrasco, Digna Elizabeth; Yambay Bautista, Xavier Rodrigo; 0302303169; 0302598941; ., .The Aim of this study is to ascertain biopsychosocial factors in caregivers of individuals with severe disabilities in the City of Azogues, Ecuador, examined between September 2018 and February 2019. Methodology: From a quantitative approach, and through a cross-sectional descriptive study, a total of 150 caregivers of “Individuals with Severe Disabilities Committee that receive the Joaquin Gallegos Lara Bonus” were analyzed. Tools and Technique: An assessment tool based on both the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale and the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale was developed and used. Results: 44% of caregiver ages ranged from 40 to 59. 89% were women, and 59% were spouses. 79% have received basic training and 73% reside in the rural area of the city. biopsychosocial factors were found in 40% of the participants. From a psychological standpoint, 12% of the participants showed a high level of anxiety and 7% showed a high level of depression. Of the 150 participants, 13% showed signs of high caregiver burden, 27% low burden, and 60% showed no signs of caregiver burden. Conclusions: Caregivers of Individuals with severe disabilities show signs of both physical and mental deterioration, relative to multiple roles they fulfil which surface high and low levels of caregiver burden (caregiver syndrome).
