Revisión bibliográfica.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Guamán Aguayza, Kevin Fernando; Matute Merchán, Sara Eufemia; 0106759426Introduction: Chronic kidney diseases present a worldwide prevalence of 10 to 14%. The primary treatment for this condition is hemodialysis, and patients exhibit a wide range of symptoms and clinical signs, highlighting notable oral cavity alterations. Objective: To learn about dental management in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis. Materials and Methods: This study was a literature review on the subject. Scientific databases were consulted using keywords related to the topic. A total of 46 articles from the last ten years in both Spanish and English were included. Results: Approximately 90% of patients with kidney disease will present oral symptoms. The main oral manifestations include gingival alterations such as inflammation, enlargement, clinical attachment loss, decreased salivary flow, oral mucosal involvement due to the pharmacological therapy used, malignant tumors, oral infections, and bone lesions. Conclusions: Chronic kidney disease has an impact on oral health. Therefore, dentists need to know the proper dental management of these patients to prevent potential complications during dental consultations.
