Una revisión bibliográfica.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) González Obando, Jissela Stefanía; Moscoso Abad, Maria Elizabeth; 1900457399Introduction: Inflammation of the pulp is one of the most common pathologies for which patients come to the dental clinic because pain is an emergency that requires immediate treatment. It is intense and difficult to control, even with analgesics. Objective: To collect information on the pharmacological management of analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and corticoids in treating symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Materials and Methods: Literature review articles at an exploratory level by collecting articles in scientific databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Google Scholar; information collected from original articles, clinical trials, or systematic reviews. Results: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been used to relieve patients' pain due to their analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. In patients with irreversible pulpitis, premedication with single analgesics is an effective strategy to improve the success of anesthesia. To maximize the therapeutic effect, certain drugs such as indomethacin, meloxicam, piroxicam, and diclofenac potassium should be prescribed, and the coadministration of paracetamol and opioid, as well as the administration of articaine as a local anesthetic are recommended.
