Objective: This research aimed to analyze the causes of violence, discrimination, and stereotypes to understand the psychological effects they produce. Methodology: This research employed a qualitative descriptive literature review design focusing on the causes and effects of violence, discrimination, and stereotypes surrounding the LGBTIQ+ community. Searches were conducted on platforms such as Redalyc and SciELO, among others, and focused mainly on the Catholic University of Cuenca library. The selected studies included meta-analyses and experimental, longitudinal, and cross-sectional explanatory studies employing quantitative and qualitative approaches. Open-access scientific literature was included. Results: The presence of violence—physical, psychological, and sexual—was evident within and outside the family, by partners, or in society. Discrimination against this population was also evident, with difficulties in obtaining employment, unequal treatment in various aspects, and despotic behavior. Stereotypes surrounding the LGBTIQ+ community affect individuals, leading to violence and discrimination. Conclusion: This work significantly highlights the violence, discrimination, and stereotypes faced by the LGBTIQ+ community, as well as their causes and psychological effects.
