Methodology: Prospective, Descriptive cross-sectional, was carried out in the community of Cachipamba of the Guapan parish, Azogues canton province of Cañar. Techniques and instruments: survey, scales validated by the World Health Organization WHOQOLOLD, consists of 24 items in LIKERT scale of 5 options, 6 dimensions to assess: sensory abilities, autonomy, past and present past activities, social participation, dying death, and intimacy. WHOQOL-BREF, which consists of 26 items on the LIKERT scale, assesses four domains: physical health, psychological health, social relations, and the environment. The geriatric depression scale YESAVAGE, assesses cognitive, affective and somatic function and KATZ index assesses activities of daily life. The data is analyzed in the Spss Stadistics system. Universe and sample: 55 elderly residents in the community who signed the informed consent participated. Results: 63.3% are between 71 and 90 years old, 50.9% are male, 63.6% live with spouse, 90.9% suffer from a disease, 96% suffer from eye diseases, 49% suffer from arterial hypertension, 80.1% do not present depression, according to WHOQOL-BREF 43.6% have a normal quality of life, physical health 36.4% normal, psychological health 43.64% very good, personal relationships 47.3% normal, 65.5% environment very well. According to WHOQOL-OLD 74% have a good quality of life, according to the KATZ index 78.2% are independent. Conclusions: according to WHOQOL-OLD-BREF, YESAVAGE and KATZ index, quality of life is assessed as normal, most do not show depression, a large number of older adults are independent, however a high percentage have diseases.
