Ítem Embargo Labio y paladar fisurado como enfermedad catastrófica en el Ecuador. Revisión bibliográfica.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Godoy Rodas, Jonnathan Javier; Lima Illescas, Miriam Verónica; 0106730179A catastrophic disease in Ecuador is considered a pathology of chronic course that implies a significant vulnerability. This research aimed to analyze the current literature on cleft lip and palate as a catastrophic disease in Ecuador. The search for scientific articles on the topic of analysis was carried out in digital databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Google Scholar, and scientific article search websites. The suffering of the presence of LPF starts from birth until the reconstruction or closure of the fissure, whose treatment will depend on the severity. After reviewing the literature, cleft lip and palate should be considered a catastrophic disease due to its high cost, chronic course, psychological impact, and prevalence in Ecuador, 14.96%. It was concluded that cleft lip and palate (CLP) in Ecuador is not considered a catastrophic disease; however, this pathology affects from birth to adulthood, as the patient must undergo multiple surgical interventions and therapies to improve oral function, speech, and facial appearance.
