- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoEvaluación de Score Ripasa versus Escala de Alvarado en el diagnóstico de apendicitis aguda(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Garcia Garcia, Walter Adrian; Rodas Andrade, Jorge Roberto; 0302562814; ., .Acute appendicitis is vermiform or cecal appendix inflammation, which may occur after appendiceal lumen obstruction. This obstruction can be produced by several factors, such as coprolites, tumors, or hypertrophy of the Peyer's plaques. Consequently, there is an increase in intraluminal pressure due to mucus accumulation, mainly associated with the serous layer's low elasticity. Worldwide, this pathology represents about 7-10% of emergency room admissions, showing a greater tendency in men than women 1 .4:1, as per Tomasto Galdo. Still, in Ecuador, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC by its Spanish acronym), this condition is one of the leading causes of morbidity; approximately 38,533 cases have been reported, representing a rate of 22.97 per 10,000 inhabitants. This study compared the Alvarado scale's usefulness and efficacy with the RIPASA scale for diagnosing acute appendicitis.
