Revisión de literatura.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Gómez Arequipa, Mariuxi Paola; Ramos Montiel, Ronald Roossevelt; 1719426486Introduction: The excessive consumption of ethyl alcohol in the oral cavity is related to a high risk of developing various general pathologies with oral repercussions and thus also various oral pathologies with general repercussions. For this reason, different hypotheses have been put forward in an attempt to clarify how ethyl alcohol could act as a risk factor in the health and well-being of each individual. Objective: The aim of the present study is to determine the effects of ethyl alcohol consumption on the oral cavity. Materials and Methods: The literature was compiled by means of an electronic search in various digital databases such as: Pubmed, Epistemonikos, Proquest, Cochrane, Ovid, Google Academic, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, Wed of science, Springer. The keywords used were: Effects, Alcohol consumption, Mouth. The search obtained was without language limit, published from 2012 to 2023. Results: For this review, a database registry of 254 articles was established; then we proceeded to eliminate duplicate bibliography, leaving 253 articles. After reviewing all the records, 238 studies were excluded, which did not meet the selection criteria, resulting in 24 articles suitable for this literature review. Conclusion: The results of this review showed that the excessive consumption of ethyl alcohol could cause modifications in cellular structures and consequently an increase in cellular structures in the s phase of the cell cycle, which would generate a predisposition to oral cancer. In the same way, this excessive consumption could be associated with various diseases such as periodontitis, decreased pH, dental erosion and intrinsic and extrinsic factors of oral pathologies.
