OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between nutritional status and dental caries in schoolchildren aged 6 and 12 years old in Azogues canton, Period 2018. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 532 school children of 6 and 12 years of age from 11 educational units of the Azogues county were randomly selected, considering age, sex, BMI, and the CEOD indices established by the WHO. The possible associations between the different variables were analyzed, applying the Odss Ratio (OR) test. RESULTS: The results obtained: were according to the BMI, an overweight condition (41.8%); normal (33.8%); and obesity (24.4%). In the female sex, there was a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity. In the CEOD-CPOD indices, an index was evidenced in most of the population: very low (46.1%), medium (20.8%), high (12.0%), low (11.8%), and very high (9.9%), finding a higher prevalence in females. A positive relationship was found between nutritional status and dental caries in 6-year-old schoolchildren, while in 12-yearold schoolchildren there was no statistically significant relationship.
